Yorkies...the ultimate lap dog....

The Yorkshire Terrier adapts to all walks of life - country or town, cottage or castle - the Yorkie lives in them all with great satisfaction. The life expectancy is up to 15 years.

Yorkies do not shed their coats, but need daily brushing to avoid knotting and matting, in order to keep the lovely coat just that, lovely. If you don not have the time, keeping  a Yorkie in a short clip is another alternative.

The way your family lives will decide the character of your Yorkshire Terrier. A noisy, boisterous family will have a noisy, boisterous dog. A quiet family will have a calm dog. Yorkies themselves are not the quietest of dogs, nor are the yappy dogs many people believe them to be.

Don't start a habit with a Yorkie that you don't want to continue. If you allow one to sleep in your bed, you just made a 18 yr commitment to a bed fellow. They are so charming that they soon will have you just where they want you and will be king of all they survey. They are so portable and travel well and most of all enjoy going with or being wherever their family is.

Always willing to learn, quite fearless and very adaptable.....

Origins of the Yorkie is thought to come from the Paisley turned Clydesdale Terrier, Waterside Terrier & the Manchester Terrier. In the 1850's dogs were being exhibited as Scotch Terriers. Huddersfield Ben (1865) stamped on this breed forever. The Yorkshire Terrier found himself in American by 1870, 4 years before the AKC was founded.

A Yorkie will live with you almost as long as a child.
