AKC offically changed the name of the breed on their registry on April 1, 2203, to" Parson Russell Terrier".
Their name comes from the founder of the breed, John Russell, who was called Jack. He was a clergyman and had a passion
for hunting from the age of 14. John Russell could hunt 4 or 5 days a week if allowed. It was in his final year as a
student at Oxford that Russell was to acquire his first terrier, a female that was to ensure his name became known worldwide.
She was called Trump. (1819)
Despite his fame in the hunting field, Russell was a hard working Parish Priest and loved by those he served.
Form & Function are inextricably linked in a working terrier.
Jack Russell's/Parson Russell Terriers
A terrier of correct conformation will always have the edge over a badly constructed dog simply because it can cover
more ground more economically and dig more efficiently. So it is not surprising that only the top show winners are sought
for a good breeding program.
